Detective Chief Superintendent Barry Walsh has been a member of Ireland’s national police service, An Garda Síochána, since 1996.

He is presently Head of the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau (GNCCB ), a position he has held since 2022. GNCCB is the specialised bureau within An Garda Síochána that is responsible for leading Ireland’s cybercrime policing response.

Barry has responsibility for developing and implementing An Garda Síochána’s organisation-wide strategy in this highly dynamic area, and the GNCCB team have nationwide responsibility for delivery of digital forensic services in support of investigations conducted by members of An Garda Síochána along with providing a range of Cyber specific roles including investigation, intelligence and prevent functions. More recently, the Bureau have established a Victim Identification Team.

Prior to his appointment to GNCCB, Barry’s role was in the investigation of serious crime , where he has over 20 years’ experience both as an investigator and leading teams. Amongst other 3rd level qualifications; Barry has a Master of Arts in Serious Crime Investigation from the University of Limerick.
